Otukpo Armed Invasion Happend While I Was in Security Meeting, Benue Gov, Finnaly Reacts

 

Governor  Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has condemned invasion of banks in Otukpo on Friday which left several bank customers dead and others injured.

FACTSHEET reports that armed men in three vehicles including a Hilux truck invaded commercial banks in Otukpo  on Friday and robbed several banks, killed seven persons including security operatives attached on duty at the banks and carted away money running into yet to be determined millions of naira.

The incident was unchallenged by security agencies including the military which has several checkpoints around the town.

In a statement issued on Saturday over 13 hours after the unfortunate incident, the Spokesman to the Benue Governor, Terso Kula revealed that the incident occurred while the governor was holding a security council meeting in Markudi, the state capital.

“It is an unfortunate development that people who were on duty, especially police officers, were shot and killed in cold blood by those mindless robbers.

“But they cannot get away with this. Already, security agencies are on their trail and must apprehend and bring them to justice,” the statement read in part.

The statement did not explain why it took the government of over 12 hours to react to the incident.
