Obafemi Awolowo University Reduces School Fees
The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife has announced a downward review of fees payable by students in the school.
The development followed a meeting between the University management and the leadership of the Students’ Union on Monday, 25th September, 2023.
I a media statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, the meeting between the students and the school management which was at the instant of the university management lasted for several hours.
Recall that students of the institution embarked of protests over the recent hike in school fees by the university.
FACTSHEET findings reveal that the Students’ Union leaders of the school insisted that the charges be reduced by 50%, the University management made it clear that the new charges were the minimum the University require to run efficiently.
After the meeting the schools spokesman announced that the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, has approved the new reduced fees as follows:
Returning students in Humanities will now pay N76,000 as against the initial sundry charges of N89, 200, while the new students in the Humanities are now to pay N131,000 as against the initial fees of N151,200.
For those in the Sciences and Technology, the initial charges of N101,200, for returning students is now N86,000 while the new students in the same Faculties will now pay N141,000 instead of the initial N163,200.
In the same vein, the returning students in the Pharmacy and College of Health Sciences will now pay N109,000, instead of N128,200. The new students in the same Faculties will now pay N164,000 instead of the initial charges of N190,000.
The statement added that the University management has agreed that the payment can be pain in two equal installments.
The statement also indicated that the University online portal has opened for payments by students.
