NUJ FCT Council Unveils Scholarships for Journalists

 

 

 

In a remarkable step towards advancing professional development, the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council has launched the 2024/2025 Scholarship Program for journalists pursuing a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism (PGDJ) at the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ) Abuja.

 

This was made known by the Secretary of Council Comrade Jide Oyekunle in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said the journalist must be in good financial standing with the union for the last two years and must have NUJ Identity cards of 2023 and 2024. That such journalist must have been attending NUJ Congresses and participating in the union activities.

 

The statement also added that the candidate must be ready to pay the 50% of the school fees while the council foot the rest.

 

 

 

This initiative fulfills one of the key campaign promises by the newly elected executives led by Chairman of Council Comrade Grace Ike, who had pledged to prioritize capacity building for  journalists within the Council.

 

No fewer than twenty ( 20 )  journalists from different Chapels and media organizations  will benefit from this scholarship

 

Comrade Ike stated, “When we promised to invest in the professional growth of our members, we meant every word. This scholarship is a testament to our commitment to making the NUJ FCT Council a hub for excellence and career advancement.”

 

“We are hopeful that the year 2025 will hold more promising opportunities for our members “ she said

 

“This scholarship program reflects our unwavering focus on capacity building and ensuring our members remain competitive in today’s dynamic media industry.”

 

“The program will support 20 journalists across various chapels under the Council. Beneficiaries will pay only 50% of the tuition fees, with the Council subsidizing the remaining 50%.”

 

Comrade Ike reiterated her administration’s resolve, adding, “Our mission is not only to serve but to elevate the profession and provide the tools for our members to thrive. Together, we are redefining what it means to be part of the NUJ FCT Council.”

 

According to her this will go a long way to promote active participation in the union activities

 

The Council urged Journalists to seize this opportunity to enhance their skills and professional standing, marking another milestone in the Council’s drive to empower its members.

 

Chapel Chairmen have been asked to nominate candidates based on eligibility and those who meet the conditions will be enrolled for the  2024/2025 academic session of the institute.
