NUJ @70: FCT Chairman Felicitates Past NAWOJ Presidents on their Deserved Awards

The Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike has  congratulated veteran journalists and colleagues who were recognised with awards at the recently held 70th anniversary celebrations of the NUJ.

Comrade Ike who was a member of the central planning committee of the anniversary celebrations in a statement she issued in Abuja on Wednesday felicitated past presidents of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) who were honoured at the event.

Former leaders of NAWOJ including, Dr.  Brenda Akpan, Chief Moji Makanjuola, RT Evelyn Onyilo , Pst Kande Daniel, Hajia Fatima Abdulkareem, Hon Asabe Baba Nahaya ,Yeye Ifeyinwa Omowole, Chief Ladi Bala and Hajiya Aisha Ibrahim Bura  were honoured with meritorious awards at the well attended ceremony held at the Musa Yar’Adua Centre Abuja on Saturday.

In her message of congratulations, Comrade Ike praised the pioneering women of the pen profession for standing tall and making the voices of women heard in the media industry.

Part of her statement reads:

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to our past and present Presidents of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) for being honored with this distinguished award recognizing your outstanding role in promoting women in journalism.

“As you celebrate this remarkable achievement, we encourage you to continue pushing boundaries, advocating for greater representation, and nurturing the next generation of women journalists.

 

The NUJ FCT Chairman reiterated the commitment of women in journalism to ensuring that gender-parity is achieved.

According to her, “the journey toward full gender parity in journalism is ongoing, and your visionary leadership is crucial in driving this momentum forward.

 

“We look forward to witnessing even greater strides under your guidance, as you inspire more women to raise their voices, tell impactful stories, and shape the future of journalism in Nigeria and beyond.

 

Comrade Ike thanked the National President of the NUJ, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, the first  ever female and current Deputy President of the NUJ, Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde, “for making NUJ @ 70 a day to remember.”
