NPA, NUJ FCT Forge Stronger Alliance on Media Training, Empowerment 

 

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council, led by its Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike, on Thursday in Abuja hosted the General Manager, Corporate and Strategic Communications and Spokesperson of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), Mr Ikechukwu Chika Onyemekara, alongside members of his team, for a strategic engagement at the Council’s Secretariat.

Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho while commending her track record, particularly during her tenure as Chairman of the House of Representatives Press Corps.

 

He acknowledged the sustained media support the Authority has enjoyed, noting the role of the NUJ FCT Council in ensuring prompt and accurate reportage of port activities.

 

He explained that the visit was aimed at strengthening ties and reaffirming the Authority’s commitment to continued collaboration with the Media.

 

The General Manager Mr Ikechukwu stressed the need for continued reportage of the modernization of the Nigeria Port Authority in the interest of the Country

“There is need for sustained media support for the Authority’s ongoing Port Modernisation Project, so we urge the Council to collaborate in educating the public on its significance.” he added

 

Earlier in her remarks, Comrade Grace Ike expressed delight at hosting the NPA describing the spokesman Mr Chika as a media-friendly practitioner

 

She briefed the delegation on reforms and achievements recorded under her leadership, particularly in training and retraining for journalists

 

The Council also pledged to sustain a cordial and productive working relationship with the Nigeria Ports Authority.

 

According to her , “The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and NUJ FCT Council can collaborate in strategic areas like media support, training, and welfare initiatives, building on NPA’s history of engaging journalists and NUJ FCT’s partnerships with government agencies.”

 

“NPA can provide NUJ FCT members with regular port briefings, exclusive tours, and data access to promote accurate reporting on maritime developments and economic contributions. This aligns with NPA’s calls for responsible journalism to showcase Nigeria’s ports globally.”

 

“In the area of Capacity Building, Joint workshops on data journalism, maritime reporting, and digital security would empower journalists” she added

 

She said, “A dedicated channel for press releases and fact-checking would help counter misinformation on port operations, enhancing transparency.”
