The Federal Fire Service on Tuesday confirmed that there were no casualties in the fire outbreak that gutted the showroom of Samsung Electronics in the Wuse 2 area of Abuja on Monday night.
FACTSHEET reported that the popular electronics store located at the Bnnex Plaza area was gutted by fire said to have been caused by power surge around 8pm on Monday. The fire lasted for more than five hours due to the highly flammable materials of the electronics in the showroom
Confirming that the incident luckily recorded no human casualty, the Spokesman of the fire service, Ibrahim Tauheed said that persons in the building were successfully evacuated.
Mr. Tauheed, however, revealed that rescue operations in the incident were hampered by the activities of hoodlums who wanted to use the opportunity of the fire incident to loot the showroom.
Tauheed while speaking to journalists said:
“So, to ensure the safety of the firefighters and their equipment, the leader of the crew, DSF Ahmed Katsina, directed the driver to take an alternate route to Ahmadu Bello Way and alerted the police control room. Upon the arrival of the Nigeria Police personnel, they fired shots in the air and used tear gas to disperse the unruly crowd.
“Allowing firefighters to commence their firefighting efforts, but regrettably, the delay caused the fire to intensify and spread throughout the building.
“Nevertheless, concerted efforts were made to prevent it from spreading to nearby structures and the nearby filling station.”
