NNPC Reports Surge in Oil Output to 1.84m bpd, Credits Strengthened Pipeline Security

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has announced a significant increase in Nigeria’s crude oil production, attributing the milestone to enhanced pipeline security measures implemented across the Niger Delta region.
The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Bayo Ojulari, disclosed this during a Parliamentary Roundtable on the State of Pipeline Security held at the National Assembly of Nigeria in Abuja.
Ojulari revealed that Nigeria’s oil production rose from a historic low of 960,000 barrels per day in 2022 to an average of 1.71 million barrels per day, with peak production reaching 1.84 million barrels per day in 2025. He described the growth as a direct result of an integrated energy security framework designed to protect critical oil infrastructure and minimise disruptions.
According to him, the framework combines legislative and executive policy coordination, intelligence gathering, security enforcement, regulatory oversight, and sustained engagement with host communities. He noted that the strategy has been effective in tackling persistent challenges such as crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism, which had previously hindered output.
Ojulari added that the improved security architecture has not only stabilised production but also boosted investor confidence in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, positioning the industry for sustainable growth.
In his remarks, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, represented by Jimoh Ibrahim, emphasised the need for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to maintain the gains recorded.
Similarly, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, represented by Julius Ihonvbere, urged participants to consolidate on the progress and ensure fairness and equity across the sector.
The roundtable, organised by the Joint Senate and House Committees on Petroleum Resources, brought together security chiefs, government officials, regulators, and private sector stakeholders to evaluate strategies for sustaining pipeline security and further increasing Nigeria’s oil production.
