Nigerians React as Reps Member Gifts Teenage Daughter N50 million Car for Graduating from Secondary School

Nigerians have taken to the social media to react to a multi-million-naira car gift a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi splashed on his daughter as she graduated from secondary school.

A social media user, Saminu Maigoro on Saturday shared the car gift on his Facebook page while congratulating the young lady.

His post reads:

“Congratulations, Aisha Yusuf Gagdi, on your graduation from Lead British International School Abuja. May it be the beginning of a wonderful journey of life.

“To celebrate her graduation and great performance in JAMB, her father surprised her with a gift of a car.”

Earlier, the lawmaker, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) who represents Pankshin/ Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency of Plateau State had also taken to his X page to congratulate his daughter.

The lawmaker wrote, “Today I attended my amazing daughter’s graduation ceremony. Watching you my dear daughter, walk across that stage fills my heart with immense pride and love. I celebrate your achievements and the strength you’ve shown. Here’s to a future filled with endless possibilities and happiness. Congratulations, my shining star.”

However, the revelation that the Plateau lawmaker gifted his teenage daughter a car valued to close to N50 million, drew the ire of some social media users who feel that the lawmaker was being insensitive to the suffering of millions of Nigerians who face dire economic situation in the country.

More so, as a member of the ruling party and a federal lawmaker who is on the payroll of the government resources generated from taxes of the citizens.

A check on popular online car mart www.jiji.ng indicates that the 2018 model Lexus RX 350 sells for between N49 million and N60 million, while the 2024 model sells for as high as N100 million.

Some of the comments read:

Tooraki Abdol- “I emotionally congratulate the celebrant in tears when I see this is coming from a lawmaker that even  in his constituency his people cant afford even (2) square meal per day and a critical situation  like this when, thigs are fallen apart see what they deserve.”

Muhammad Aminu  Aliyu- “That the social injustice that the citizens wantb to fight. Even when there is possibility of protest against misrule, the lawmakers openly offered this gift to his daughter. Now the age limit for application to be admitted into our tertiary institutions is 18. Don’t be surprised if he takes her to school in the UK.”

Kamaraddeen Ibrahim Umar- “Congratulations to her.

“But how can we progress as a country like this where an intelligent son of a common man Nigerian is struggling to pay for his JAMB, WAEC,  or NECO exams and successfully pass, he cannot afford the hiked university tuition. And in the other hand, the politician the common voted into power are there syphoning, stealing, and sharing our national resources for them to enjoy and spoil their family with it.”
