Nigerian Army Investigates Allegations Against Commander

The Nigerian Army has removed Brigadier General MA Sadiq, the immediate past Commander of 3 Brigade Kano, from his position to facilitate a thorough investigation into allegations made against him.

According to an update from the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the former commander is currently undergoing a military investigation into administrative discrepancies that occurred during his tenure at the 3 Brigade.

The Nigerian Army emphasized that, as a self-regulatory institution grounded in discipline, justice, and accountability, it maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards indiscipline. It stressed that no form of misconduct or illicit behavior that could undermine the institution’s core values will be tolerated.

The Army reaffirmed its commitment to the highest standards of integrity, stating that its transparency remains steadfast. It also assured the public that “the process would be fair, impartial, and in line with our established procedures.”

The statement also responded to recent media reports that have highlighted allegations against General Sadiq. These include claims that he misappropriated palliative supplies intended for soldiers and their families. Reports suggest that he allegedly withheld essential items, such as rice, provided by the Defence Headquarters, and instead sold military equipment meant for operations against terrorists and kidnappers, including generator sets and operational vehicles.

Other allegations also claim that General Sadiq misappropriated military property, including a MIKANO heavy-duty generator, which was purportedly sold to scrap dealers. In response to these allegations, General Sadiq has been replaced by Brigadier General A.M. Tukur, a former registrar of the Nigerian Defence Academy.

The Nigerian Army has reassured both internal and external stakeholders that the allegations will be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate administrative actions will be taken
