Stakeholders and women leaders of political parties converged in Abuja to advocate for the passage of a Bill seeking Seat Reservation for women in the state houses of Assembly and the national assembly.
Gracing the event with his presence the Deputy Speaker house of representatives Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu advised Women leaders in the course for women representation in governance to use diplomatic channels to address gap in women representation in Nigeria’s political space.
It will be called that Nigeria is ranked 181 in the scale of countries in the world ranking of women in Parliament, with Rwanda holding the first position and Senegal in 12th.
In the 2023 elections 4 women won the senate seats out of 109 while 16 women won in house of representatives out of 360 seats, the state houses of Assembly election could only produce 48 elected women in various state out of a total of 1,019 women who contested make a 4.7% rate.
