Former National Security Adviser (NSA), Maj Gen. Babagana Monguno Rtd has said that Nigeria may never make progress unless the Peoples on the country unite.
Monguno made the declaration in Abuja on Friday at the unveiling of a book authored by the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Maj. Gen. Lucky Irabor.
The book titled, “Scares- Nigeria’s Journey and the Boko Haram Conundrum,” besides being an account of Maj. Gen. Irabor’s stewardship, also dwels on Nigeria’s struggle with the Boko Haram insurgency and other security challenges.
Speaking on the content of the book, Maj. Gen Monguno noted that the biggest challenges face Nigeria’s development were, “the struggle for power and authority, [struggle] for resource allocation and fear of domination among the various ethnic groups in the country. ”

Monguno who was among the reviewers of the book noted that “impaired nationl cohesion” remains Nigeria’s greatest enemy.
Monguno who was one time Commander of the Guards Brigade and later Director of Military Intelligence stated that over the last “six decades Nigerians have developed an unprecedented “detestation of one another” to the point that we can nolonger “think straight” as a nation.
He therefore, called on Nigerians to begin to think and talk to one another as a way of starting the healing and uniting process that can propel the country to greatness.
The former Military intelligence chief reiterated that until sheds the “nasty attitude to one another” the “Cain and Abel situation” will continue to hinder national development and progress.
Monguno was the NSA between 2015 and 2023.
The book launch was graced by former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Dr. Goodluck Jonathan among other dignitaries.
