Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara has revealed that he earned N400, 000 as monthly salary while he served as the Speaker.
Dogara made the revelation while delivering his goodwill message at the ongoing “Open NASS Week” at the National Assembly.
The former Speaker who also revealed that his monthly allowances and office impresst as Speaker amounted to N25million stated that the funds were never adequate due to the plethora of requests from constituents.
Saying the he never spent any party of the allowances, Dogara said that “the allowances never lasted for three days” due to humongous number of requests for assistance from the public, especially constituents.
The former Speaker, however, admitted that “Democracy all over the world is expensive,” but called on Nigerians to support Democracy as its the system that guarantees inclusion for all section.
Dogara served as the Speaker between June 2015 and June 2019 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
