More Crises in Plateau, Gov Mutfwang Declares 24-Hr Curfew, Police Teargas Sacked 16 PDP Lawmakers

More crises continue to rock Plateau State  as fear of reprisal attacks has enveloped parts of the state in the last one week.

The rising tension on Tuesday morning led to the declaration of  24-hour curfew on Mangu Local Government Area by Governor Caleb Mutfwang. The Curfew according to the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Gyand Bare was put in place to forestall any breakdown of law and order in the affected areas.

The governor’s order urged all residents of the local government to stay indoors as only people on essential duty, especially security operatives and health workers may move around in a controlled manner throughout the duration of the curfew.

Meanwhile, there has been some fracas involving a detachment of the Nigeria Police and supporters of the 16 sacked members of the Plateau State House of Assembly who are members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

The sacked 16 lawmakers and their supporters had as early as 6am laid siege on the House of Assembly Complex as the state parliament prepared to resume after the Christmas and New Year break.

The ousted former lawmakers insisted that they must be allowed into the chamber despite the fact that the Appeal Court sitting in Abuja had sacked all of them.
