The lawmaker representing Ideato Federal Constituency of Imo State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, has resigned his membership of of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The lawmaker also announced his defection to the Action Peoples Party (APP)

Speaking to his supporters in a meeting at Akaokwa on Wednesday, the lawmaker said that the protracted leadership “squabbles” in the PDP has left him with no option than to look for another platform.
He said that the PDP has been “weakened” by the crisis in the party and that certain individuals were misbehaving.
Ugochinyere was locked in a battle of supremacy with the National Secretary of the PDP, Senator Samuel Anyanwu over the leadership of the party in his home state of Imo.
Ugochinyere had aligned with Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and a former National Vice Chairman of the party in the Southeast, but he quickly disentangled himself from the group after it became obvious that the ill-fated factional convention of the party sponsored by the Oyo State governor in Ibadan in November 2025 could not stand.
