The lawmaker representing Enugu North in the Senate on the platform of Labour Party (LP), Senator Okey Ezea has died.
The late lawmaker was aged 62 years.
Senator Ezea until his death was the only lawmaker in Enugu State who refused to decamp to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmaker according to sources close to him died in an undisclosed hospital in London where he was receiving treatment for undisclosed illness.
Confirming the passing of the lawmaker, a close associate, Chief Nkem Ossai, who spoke to the media said:
“It’s a sad day. Nsukka has been thrown into mourning. Enugu North has lost a dedicated man who vowed to restore and develop his senatorial zone. The atmosphere is sombre since the news broke.

“The loss of Senator Okey Ezea is a significant blow to the political landscape of Enugu State, and his contributions will be remembered by many.”
Late Senator Okechukwu Ezea was born on August 11, 1963 .
He attended Community Primary School, Umachi in Enugu Ezike and later proceeded Nsukka High School in Nsukka for his primary and secondary education respectively. He stidied Political Science at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka w and graduated in 1986.
He later studied law at the University of Lagos where he earned his LL.B and LLM
He joined the Nigeria Customs Service (NIS) and retired from the service as a Deputy Supretendednt. After retirement, he founded Ideke Shipping company Limited.
He joined politics in 1998 and was a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). iN 2015 and 2018 he was the governorship candidate of the APC.
He served in the government of late President Muhammadu Buhari when he was appointed the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo.
