The Kogi State Government has dismissed reports claiming that teachers are being asked to pay N10,000 before their employment can be confirmed.
In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by Dr. Aisha Mohammed Atojoko, Secretary of the State Senior Secondary Education Board (KGSSEB), the government described the allegations as “figments of mischief makers’ imagination.”
Recent reports had alleged that over 5,000 teachers, recruited towards the end of former Governor Yahaya Bello’s tenure, were being asked to pay a N10,000 fee to secure their employment confirmation after completing their probationary period.

However, the KGSSEB refuted these claims, emphasizing that employment confirmation is a right for the affected teachers, having been recruited without any financial obligation and having worked for two years. The Board clarified that Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo’s administration had never issued such a directive.
“The present administration of Governor Ododo is committed to making life meaningful for citizens, as demonstrated by the payment of a N72,000 minimum wage across the board,” the statement read.
The Board further highlighted that teachers in Kogi State are currently enjoying better conditions of service than ever before. It described the allegations as a ploy by mischief-makers and political detractors seeking to undermine the government’s efforts.
“The Kogi State Senior Secondary Education Board, under the leadership of Dr. Habiba Suleiman, has made implementing Governor Ododo’s vision for secondary education a top priority. It is laughable and illogical for anyone threatened by the ongoing repositioning of the education sector to attempt to tarnish the government’s reputation,” the statement concluded.
