JUST IN: Ex US President, Jimmy Carter Dies, Aged 100

Former President of the United States of America, Mr. Jimmy Carter has died,  aged 100.

President Carter was the longest living US President ever.

In his life time he was also awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his outstanding humanitarian work which spanned several parts of the world including Nigeria where he dedicated a lot of resources and goodwill eradicating guinea worm and other water borne diseases.

Announcing the passing of the former President, his son, Chip Carter said that, “My father was a hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and unselfish love.”

“My brothers, sister, and I shared him with the rest of the world through these common beliefs. The world is our family because of the way he brought people together, and we thank you for honoring his memory by continuing to live these shared beliefs.”

Later President Carter, a democrat defeated Republican President Gerald Ford in 1976, and was sworn in in January 1977. Her served one term as Republican Ronald Reagan swept him away from office in a landslide victory.

His term as the US leader was characterised by economic turmoil, but he was globally acknowledged for his peace-building role, including his central role in brokering peace between Egypt and Israel. Late President Carter died at his home in Plains, Georgia.
