JUST IN: Resident Doctors Declare 5-day Warning Strike

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has declared a five-day warning strike starting from Friday September 12th, 2025.

The strike declaration of strike has been confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday  by Agbor Affiong, the General Secretary of NARD, FCT.

The decision of the doctors follows the failure of the federal government to meet the demands of the doctors.

FACTSHEET reported that the NARD had on September 1, 2025 issued a 10-day strike notice to the government over the non-payment of medical residency training fund among other outstanding welfare issues. The National President of NARD, Dr. Tope Osundara had told journalists on Tuesday that the National Executive Committee of the association would determine if the strike would go on after their Wednesday meeting.

The declaration of the strike by the doctors was part of the communique reached after the NARD online National Executive Council meeting held between Wednesday and early hours of Thursday.

Part of the notice reads: “Arising from the NARD E-NEC meeting held on Wednesday, the 10th of September, 2025, which extended into the early hours of Thursday, the 11th of September, 2025, the NEC members unanimously resolved to embark on a five-day warning strike.

“The strike will commence at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, 12th September 2025, and will end on Tuesday, 16th September 2025.

“All centres are hereby directed to duly inform their hospital managements and continue to press home our collective demands.”
