The 2023 Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Datti Baba-Ahmed has debunked news reports that he had declared for the 2027 presidential contest.
Speaking to Channels TV on Friday, Mr. Baba-Ahmed categorically stated that, “I Did not declare for presidency” I only declared that I remained a member of the Labour Party.
The Kaduna-born politician said that It was “so unfortunate that the social media sensationalised” his speech. He reiterated that he simply maintained that he was not leaving the LP.

He, however, affirmed that he is interested in running for the number one office in the land noting that his ambition to run for the office of the president was not a secret. He reminded the public that even “before His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi indicated interest in the presidency,” he noted that he contest the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primary election in Port Harcourt in 2018.
Mr. Datti Baba-Ahmed also denied reports that he took a jab at Mr. Obi for leaving the Labour Party he clarified: “I said defection is not a crime, Peter Obi only exercised his political right, noting that even himself was not free from such political movement. He maintained that “my relationship with His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi is solid.”
