JUST IN: Appeal Court Affirms Nullification of Makinde-led Ibadan Convention, Upholds PDP National Caretaker Committee
The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has ruled in favour of the Barr. Nyesom Wike led leadership of the Peoples Democratic (PDP).
The appellate Court held that held that where a political party fails or refuses to conduct its congresses or conventions in accordance with its own constitution and the provisions of the Electoral Act, such a matter ceases to be regarded as an internal affair of the party and becomes subject to judicial scrutiny. Consequently, the outcome of such congresses or conventions cannot be upheld, as they are deemed to have been conducted in violation of the party’s governing rules and the relevant provisions of the law.

Effectively, the court upheld the Federal High Court ruling that nullified the November 2025 factional convention in Ibadan that elected Mr. Tanimu Turaki as the National chairman of the party. The court also awarded a N2millio penalty against Mr. Turaki.
The Court held that, though a notice was sent to INEC in respect of the ill-fated Ibadan convention, the notice failed to conform with the provisions of the PDP Constitution which rendered the notice INVALID.
The Caretaker National Working Committee led by Hon Abdulrahman Mohammed is therefore the authentic leadership of the PDP.
