INEC Timetable: Political Parties to Conduct Primaries from May 22-June 20, 2026

 

Political parties aiming to contest the 2027 general elections are expected to conduct their primary elections to elect candidate for various offices between May 22 and June 20, 2026.2.13

The schedule is contained in the details of the 2027 general elections published  by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday.

 

FACTSHEET reports that the Chairman of INEC, Prof Joash Amupitan made the announcement at a press conference in Abuja on Friday.

 

According to the detailed timetable, political parties are given between  April 22 and May 21, 2026 to submit their membership register to INEC.  

 

Parties are to submit the nomination forms (Form EC9 and Form EC9A) for their presidential candidates and National Assembly aspirants between July 14 and July 28, 2026

Primaries- 22-May to 20 June, 2026, while that of the governorship and state House of Assembly candidates will be submitted between August 11 and 25, 2026.2.13

 

 

According to the timetable, INEC will publish the final list of presidential and National Assembly candidates on August 15, 2026, while the final list of governorship and state assembly candidates  will be published on September 6, 2026.
