IMPEACHMENT: Why I Can’t Set up Probe Panel Against Gov Fubara- Rivers Chief Judge

The Chief Judge of Rivers State,  Honourable Justice Chibuzor Simeon Amadi, has said that he could not set up  a seven-man panel to investigate allegations leveled against the governor of the state, Sir Siminalayi Fubara and hi deputy, Mrs. Ngozi Ordu  by the state House of Assembly due to subsisting court orders.

In a letter dated January 20, 2026 the Chief Judge cited two court orders retraining him from setting up the panel.

According to the letter addressed to the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Martins Amaewhule, Justice Amadi  noted that the court  orders were served on his office on 16th January 2026 and that the orders were still validly in force

Citing legal precedents, Justice Amadi noted that a similar case in 2007 where the Chief Judge of Kwara State wasreprimanded for ignoring a restraining court order when setting up an investigative panel.

The Chief Judge noted that the Kwara State case in 2007was later voided by the Court of Appeal.
