Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has reaffirmed his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while openly declaring support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, insisting that his stance does not amount to anti-party activity.
Fayose made the assertion amid growing criticism from party loyalists who have questioned his continued endorsement of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration. According to him, the PDP currently lacks a credible challenger capable of displacing Tinubu, a reality he says must be acknowledged rather than ignored.

“I am still a bonafide member of the PDP, but I will not deceive myself or Nigerians. As it stands today, the PDP does not have a formidable candidate to challenge President Tinubu,” Fayose stated.
The outspoken politician dismissed claims that his position undermines party unity, arguing that expressing personal conviction should not be misconstrued as disloyalty. He maintained that political honesty and realism are more important than blind allegiance to party lines.
Fayose further emphasized that his support for Tinubu is based on his assessment of the current political landscape and not a defection to the APC. He added that internal challenges within the PDP, including leadership disputes and lack of cohesion, have weakened its capacity to mount a strong opposition.
His comments have sparked renewed debate within the PDP, with some members calling for disciplinary action, while others view his remarks as a reflection of broader concerns within the party.
As Nigeria’s political climate gradually shifts ahead of the 2027 general elections, Fayose’s position highlights ongoing tensions within opposition ranks and raises questions about the PDP’s readiness to reclaim power at the national level
