Resulting from the nationwide condemnation and bashing of the police over its role in the just concluded local government elections in Rivers State, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has directed the Commissioner of Police Rivers State to unseal all the 23 local government secretariats in the state.
The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko in a statement on Monday stated that CP Bala Mustapha has been directed to recall all the police personnel earlier drafted to secure LGA secretariats in the state.
According to the statement, “This decision aligns with the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to maintaining neutrality and ensuring the smooth operation of democratic institutions.”
The police statement, however, stated that it has put in place an “Emergency measures will be swiftly implemented to restore normalcy if necessary.”
Recall that the Police got entangled with the government of Governor Siminalyi Fubara which led to the police staying away while the local government election held on Saturday October 5, 2024.
Fubara had in a press briefing called out IGP Egbedokun accusing the police boss of being “wicked and fraudulent.”
