Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Ume Bassey Eno has dispelled rumours in the state that he is planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governor Eno was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections.
Governor Eno who spoke to the media in Uyo, the state capital on Sunday as part of the activities marking the 37th anniversary celebrations to mark the creation of the state said that his closeness to the former governor of the state and the current President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio was more of friendship and partners in the development of the state than political.
The governor reiterated his commitment to the PDP, maintaining that he is concerned more with the governance of the state than to play politics noting that he enjoys the support of prominent citizens of the state irrespective of the political party affiliations.
So media reports had insinuated that the closeness of the governor with Sen. Akpabio was driven by a plan to join the APC by the governor.
However, the governor in his reaction said:
“The first thing we get from building this relationship is the peace we are all enjoying. Maybe that’s why some people feel that I am neither here nor there.
“I am a PDP person, I am working for PDP, and as a state, we will continue to support the party. But we must differentiate between party issues and governance issues.
“We are going for election now, and I am working for my party, the PDP and we are campaigning, and we will win. Some people have accused me of my body language.
“I don’t have body language, you misread me. There is no body language. I am working for the PDP, and we have shown the people that we can be trusted.
“There is no local government that we are not doing something in this state, and there is no comparison.
“I want voters to be the ones to decide; compare what is done to what you are seeing and look at what is left.”
