I Don’t Have, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp Accts, Beware of Fraudsters, Okonjo-Iweala Alerts Nigerians
The Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has alerted Nigerians about an AI-generated social media content impersonating her.
The WTO DG also clarified that she does not have any Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp account noting that she only posts on her verified X (formerly Twitter) account.
Speaking through a statement shared on her X handle on Wednesday, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala called on the public to disregard the fake information which according her was already being handled by the authorities.
The statement reads:
“Just alerting Nigerians. Another fake AI-manipulated video. The authorities are handling it. Just wanted to alert you to be aware of this,” she said.
“As I repeatedly said, I never post anything on Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp. Anything emanating from these sources with my image is not from me. I only post on Twitter/X. I just don’t want people to be duped.”
Dr. Okonjo-Iweala was Nigeria’s minister of finance and coordinating minister of the Economy. During her tenure, Nigeria secured its first ever foreign debt clearance.
She also served briefly a foreign affairs minister.
