The emergence of Isiaka follows the unfortunate passing away  in January this year of the erstwhile deputy chief whip, Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga who also hailed from Ogun State.

The Speaker, Hon Abbas Tajudeen announced the appointment of the new deputy chief whip  at the Tuesday’s plenary of the House.

Announcing the appointment, the Speaker said, “Following consultations with the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caucus and other stakeholders from the South West, the Leadership of the House has received and accepted the recommendation of Honourable Isiaka Ibrahim to serve as the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives.”

Until his appointment, Hon Isiaka was the Chairman of the House Committee on National Planning and Economic Development.  The new deputy chief whip was first elected to the Green Chamber in 2015  and has held several key positions, including Chairman of the Committee on Ecological Funds, Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Governmental Affairs, and has also chaired numerous Ad Hoc Committees of the House.

In his remarks to members, Speaker Abbas emphasised: “Let’s take a moment to remember Honourable Onanuga’s invaluable contributions to this House, and to her nation. May her soul rest in peace. We congratulate Honourable Isiaka Ibrahim on this well-deserved elevation and trust that he will bring the same dedication and commitment to his new role as he has demonstrated in his service to this House and to his constituents.”

“We wish him success and God’s guidance as he undertakes this important responsibility. May we all continue to honour the memory of Honourable Onanuga by working together to serve the Nigerian people with diligence, integrity, and a sense of purpose.”
