A social organisation, De Norsemen Kclub International, has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to immediately review some of its economic policies as a potent tool to mitigate the current economic hardship in the country.
The call was part of communique the group issued at its 16th International Converge held at the NICON Luxury Hotel Abuja presided over by it International President, Chief Chidi Anokwu . The group expressed worry over the multiple challenges facing Nigerians including insecurity, high cost of food item and general economic dislocations.
The group noted that the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu was the catalyst of the suffering of Nigerian masses as the abrupt removal of the subsidy threw many Nigerians into poverty overnight as their purchasing power suddenly plummeted.

COMMUNIQUE OF 16TH INTERNATIONAL CONVERGE OF DE NORSEMEN KCLUB INTERNATIONAL (DNKI), TAGGED ‘ASO 2024’
De Norsemen Kclub International, a global humanitarian organisation with chapters in 57 countries and 36 States of Nigeria’s federation as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), held its 16th International Converge at Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja, 13th- 15th December, 2024.
The International President, Chief Chidi Anokwu led Norsemen consisting of members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), National Advisory Council (NAC), Board of Trustees (BOT) and others from Nigeria and Diasporan chapters to Abuja, Nigeria’s capital where they had a convivial stay. The city paraded an array of irresistible tourism settings with their trappings and ambience.
Having savoured the allure of Abuja City, delegates had fruitful deliberations and issued the communique as follows:
1. They called on the government to mitigate the hardships faced by the masses, noting that the suffering in the land occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy has spread frustration everywhere in Nigeria thereby causing humanitarian problems.
2. Delegates called on the government to review its economic policies and make them people-focused and masses friendly, noting that government can only govern the living, not dead citizens.
3. DNKI expressed worry over the level of insecurity in the land, highlighting that no part of the country is in the real sense, safe at the moment. It noted that no meaningful socioeconomic and political activities could thrive when citizens live in an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty. It, therefore, advised the government to prioritise security of life and property.
4. DNKI backed the cashless policy of the federal government as they said that it would reduce crime and the circulation fake currency notes but advised that government should deploy and upgrade any technology that could make the implementation of the policy hitch-free/seamless in order to erase the suffering it placed on Nigerians particularly with the current cash crunch.
5. Delegates encouraged members to remain industrious, creative, patriotic, disciplined and law-abiding anywhere they find themselves.
6. Urged members to intensify their involvement in humanitarian service which is the foundation of the organization.
7. Charged members to be responsible family men and commit adequate time and resources to their families as a stable and progressive family makes a stable and progressive nation.
8. Tasked members to be conscious of their health and go for regular medical checks. Identified regular exercise as a way of maintaining good health and living a meaningful life.
9. Enjoined security agencies to be professional and thorough in the discharge of their duties and refrain from harassing DNKI members and interrupting their programmes as the body remains a legal entity in Nigeria and abroad.
