Gov Fubara Dethrones Awuse as Chairman, Rivers Traditional Rulers Council, Appoints Replacement
Rivers State Governor, Siminilayi Fubara has sacked His Royal Highness, Eze Sergent Awuse as the Chairman of Rivers State traditional Rulers Council.
In his place, the governor appointed Eze Chike Wodo as the new chairman of the council.
In a meeting with the traditional rulers on Friday, Governor Fubara accused Awuse of playing “double politics” in the ongoing crisis in the state. Fubara told the traditional rulers that Eze Sergeant Awuse has been ineffective in leading the traditional rulers due to his political affiliation.
Fubara said:
“It is like your chairman has run away. Maybe when your chairman is ready, he will write to me. If he gets the approval, he can then come for the meeting.
“But you already know his position. He is not a stable man, he is not a stable character. He cannot say something in the morning and say another thing in the evening”
“It is because of that he decided to hide his head. You have to bear with him until when God will help us remove this problem you are having. By the grace of God, it will be resolved soon.”
The removal of Awuse further pits Governor Fubara against the Nyesom Wike group. Recall that the Hon. Martin Amaewhule led Rivers State House of Assembly had in the heat of the political crisis rocking the state promulgated a law that barred Governor Fubara from interfering with the leadership of the traditional council.
Wike as governor of Rivers State had removed King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, as the chairman of the traditional rulers council and replaced him with Awuse.
