Fubara Begins Reconciliation, Peace-building in Rivers, to Meet Pro-Wike Lawmakers on Monday in Govt House

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has initiated peace moves with members of the Rivers State House of Assembly over the affairs of the oil rich state.

In a move aimed at creating an avenue for dialogue, the governor after several meetings with leaders of the state and members of his kitchen cabinet has scheduled a meeting with the 27 pro-Wike members of the Rivers State House that were recently reinstated by the Supreme Court.

 

The meeting scheduled to hold at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Monday, March 10, 2025 by 10.00 AM will see Governor Fubara in the same room with the lawmakers for the first time in nearly tow years, the meeting will also be the first time any of the lawmakers will be holding official meeting in the Rivers State Government since the outbreak of political crisis in the state.

According to the meeting notice and invitation letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, deliberations at the critical meeting will dwell on  “the provision of a suitable venue for the Assembly’s sittings, settlement of all outstanding remuneration and allowances for Honourable members, presentation of the budget and related matters, and any other necessary issues aimed at advancing the best interests of the state.”

The letter also indicated that Governor Fubara is in high spirit in anticipation of the Assembly members’ attendance, stating that the discussion aims to “chart the way forward in the interest of the good people of Rivers State.”

Governor Fubara had in a statewide broadcast after the Supreme Court judgement that restored the mandate of the 27 lawmakers assured that he will implement all the decisions of the apex court.

The Governor is compliance with the court ruling immediately ordered all the local government chairmen in the state to vacate their office and hand over affairs of the councils to the most senior civil servants in the state.
