Another explosion has rocked Rivers State’s Soku oil facility in Akuku Toru Local Government Area.
According to Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre (YEAC-Nigeria) the latest explosion on Sunday comes barely a week after major blasts struck the Trans Niger Pipeline in Bodo, Gokana, and Oga/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Areas.

Youth volunteers of the grassroots NGO, which has a strong presence in the Niger Delta, reported the early morning blast at the Soku oil facility, operated by Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited.
In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Fyneface Dumnamene Fyneface, YEAC-Nigeria disclosed that the explosion was accompanied by fireballs seen rising from the facility.
The NGO said the cause of the explosion is yet to be determined and called for an immediate investigation, urging the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) to carry out a Joint Investigation Visit (JIV) to ascertain the cause and ensure accountability.
The organization stated that perpetrators of this crime must be held accountable in line with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).
