Fire Incident Won’t Affect Obi, Atiku Appeals, Supreme Court Assures Nigerians

The Supreme Court has assured Nigerians that the fire incident that broke out in a part of the court’s expansive complex earlier  on Monday will not in any way affect the appeals filed against the ruling of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) by the duo of Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Spokesman of the court, Festus Akande told journalists in Abuja that “As a matter of fact, there’s no single connection, and it won’t affect anything in the court.”

FACTSHEET reported that the fire incident which according to Akande was caused by electrical spark destroyed three offices including that of Justice Mohamned Saulawa.

However, speaking to Arise TV on Monday, Mr. Akande stated that  “this incident occurred in a chamber equipped with a computer and other equipment, as well as a functional library used by any justice occupying such chamber.”

“The only thing that was affected were the books and computer equipment in the chamber. Even the books are replaceable.

“Also, it has nothing to do with it because it was from an electrical fault, which could happen anywhere, and there are things that happen daily.”

Obi and Atiku have both appealed the ruling of the five Justices of the Court of Appeal which affirmed the declaration of President Bola Tinubu as the winner of the  February 25 presidential election.
