FG Declares Thursday, Friday Public Holidays to Mark Eid-ul-Fitr

The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, which signifies the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan.

Minister of interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on Tuesday through a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

Extending warm greetings to the Muslim faithful, the minister congratulated them on successfully completing the month of fasting and spiritual reflection. He urged Muslims to continue practicing the virtues emphasised during Ramadan, including love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice.

He also called on all Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the country’s continued peace, unity, and prosperity, while encouraging citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend acts of kindness to those in need.

The minister reassured that the federal government remains committed to promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians
