Ex Rivers Lawmaker, Senator Azuta Mbata Elected Ohaneze President General

Senator Azuta Mbata has been elated the President -General of apex Igbo socio cultural organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo.

Senator Azuta-Mbata represented Rivers East Senatorial District between 1999 and 2007 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The election was held at the Old Government House, Enugu on Friday was witnessed by prominent Igbo leaders and stakeholders, including Governors Hope Uzodimma (Imo State), Peter Mbah (Enugu), Prof. Charles Soludo (Anambra) and Dr. Alex Otti of (Abia).

Others are, Chris Ngige, Bishop Emmanuel Chukwuma and Sen. Victor Umeh.

Prince Okey Nwadinobi from Abia State was elected as the National Deputy President while Chief Emeka Sibeidu from Anambra State was elected as the new Secretary General of the Igbo group.

Senator Mbata succeeds Nze Ozichukwu Chukwu  was acting President-General following the death of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, both Ozichukwu and Anyanwu were from Imo State.

In his acceptance speech, Azuta-Mbata expressed gratitude to the delegates for their trust and support, promising to work towards uniting the Ndigbo and addressing pressing issues.

The election of Azuta- Mbata marks the first time someone from outside the five Southeast states was elected the President -General of Ohaneze Ndigbo.
