Edo Governorship Election Tribunal Flees Benin City, Relocates to Abuja

The Edo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has announced  it has relocated from Benin City to the Federal Capital Territory (FT)

In a statement issued by the Secretary of the tribunal, Mu’azu Bagudu, the relocation will take effect from Monday January 27, 2025.

The notice of relocation signed by Bagudu reads in part, “I am directed to notify all parties that the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Benin City, Edo State, has been relocated to Abuja at the National Judicial Institute (NJI), Airport Road, Abuja, effective from Monday, 27th January, 2025.”

The tribunal was last week rocked by gunshots that sent both judges and lawyers scampering for safety in Benin City.

Bothe the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state have been trading words over the incident.
