Ebonyi Govt Increases Minimum Wage to N90,000, Announces Free Internet for Students, Grant for Filmmakers
ABAKALIKI- The Government of Ebonyi State has approved the increment of minimum wage of civil servants in the state from N70,000 to N90,000.
The increment was announced after the State Executive Council Meeting presided over by Governor Ogbonna Nwifuru on Wednesday in Abakaliki.
According to a statement issued by the state’s commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Mr. Ikeuwa Omebe seen by FACTSHEET, it was disclosed that “, EXCO approved a further increment on the current minimum wage of Ebonyi State workers with an additional Twenty Thousand Naira (N20,000) across board.”

The government also announced the commencement of a new policy that requires civil servants who have served eight years as Permanent Secretary or director to retire from service immediately irrespective of their age.
Similarly, the government announced that 20 indigenous filmmakers from the state will be given grants as part of the state’s “empowerment programme” for young people and entrepreneurs. According to Mr. Omebe, the EXCO has set up a 5-man committee to formulate the implementation of the new policy.
In the same vein, the Ebonyi State Government has announced that it has concluded plans to implement a free internet policy for student communities and other strategic public places in the state.
The government did not, however disclose the timelines for the new policies affecting filmmakers and installation of free internet.
