Ebonyi Govt Buries 11 Victims of Anambra Mass Killings, Nwifuru Reiterates Call for Calm, Donates N60million to Bereaved Families
The Ebonyi State Government has buried the 11 victims of the Orumba South massacre in Anambra State.
The victims who are all from Ebonyi State were killed in a wanton mass shooting in Ogboji Community in Orumba South LGA of Anambra State in July 2025 while they were holding a town union meeting.
The victims include, Ikechukwu Nwafor (Ikwo LGA), Ebenezer Nwigbo (Ikwo LGA), Uche Alegu (Ikwo LGA), Monday Ofoke (Izzi LGA), Chidera Utobo (Izzi LGA), Akam Okechukwu (Ezza North LGA), Sunday Offim (Ikwo LGA), Sunday Ugada (Ikwo LGA), Clement Ofoke (Izzi LGA), Chidera Nwogbala (Izzi LGA), and Sunday Nweke (Izzi LGA).
The funeral programme was conducted with the full compliment of Ebonyi State Government led by Governor Ogbonna Nwifuru who also announced a donation of N60. 000, 000 (sixty million naira) to the families of the victims.
The mass killing of the 11 Ebonyians generated a lot of controversy as the people feared they were targeted. Earlier in June 2025 another indigene of Ebonyi State was also gunned while he was buying roasted corn on the street.
The Anambra State Government and security agencies, though dispelled the rumours of targetted killing has not been able to arrest the pepetrators of the crime.

While speaking at the funeral obseqies held at the Unity Square, Abakaliki, Governor Nwifuru reiterated his call for calm.
The governor lamented that the victims were “diligent and resilient youths of Ebonyi State who had committed no crime, yet were slain without provocation.”
Governor Nwifuru who described himself as the “chief mourner” said that despite the antics of those seeking to cause division, the people of Ebonyi State remain in unity even in the tragic situation.
He said:
“we convened to reaffirm the unity, peace, and resolve of the people of Ebonyi State as we bid our brethren farewell. As the Chief Mourner, I implore our stakeholders and the entire people of Ebonyi State to remain composed, calm, and peaceful, for this heinous tragedy has served to further unite us rather than divide us.”
The burial of the victims was part of the ppromiseand resolve of Governor Nwifuru to follow up and ensure justice for the victims.
Governor Nwifuru while condemning the mass killing in July had said that “This senseless act of violence against law-abiding citizens is not only barbaric but a direct assault on peace, unity, and the sanctity of human life. It defies reason and logic that a group of Ebonyi people holding a peaceful meeting would be shot at close range. It is unacceptable, and I strongly condemn such a heinous act in its.
“Such barbarism has no place in modern society. State resources will be deployed to unmask the perpetrators of these bloody killings,”
“I will continue to follow this matter closely to ensure justice is served. There will be no sacred cows.”
