Ebonyi 1st Class Traditional Ruler, Ezeogo Agom Eze Dies at 92

A first class traditional ruler in Ebonyi State, HRH Ezeogo Dr. Agom Eze, , the Igboezekuna I of Igboeze Onicha, paramount ruler Igboeze autonomous community in Onicha Local Government Area of the state has died at the age of 92.

 

The transition of the revered traditional ruler was announced through a statement signed by Prince Samuel Ogbu Eze and Barr. Agom Ogbonna Eze  on behalf of the family.

Part of the  statement reads, “It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that we write to regretfully inform you of the passing of His Royal Highness (HRH), Ezeogo Elder Dr. Agom Eze MON, OON, Igboezekuna I of Igboeze Onicha at 92 years old, who until his death was a distinguished traditional ruler of Igboeze Autonomous Community, Onicha Local Government, Ebonyi State and one of the  foremost founding fathers who fought and struggled for the creation of Ebonyi state on First October.1996.”

Late Ezeogo Agom Eze was an outstanding scholar, public servant and an elder statesman.

He was born on September 6, 1932 and was educated at the  Hope Waddell Training Institution, Calabar, from where he proceeded to the University of London where he  earned a degree in Economics in 1963. He later studied for his postgraduate degree at the University of Dublin between 1963 and 1966.

He taught economics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka before taking leave to serve as Commissioner in Imo State. Between 1975 and 1979 he was commissioner for Works, Lands, and Housing; for Education and Information; and Industries, Trade, and Cooperative. The late royal father also made his mark in other institutions including the Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Abia State University and Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki where he served as pro=chancellor. In the Private sector, late Ezeogo Agom Eze was member of Boards of financial institutions including, Cooperative and Commerce Bank (CCB) where he was the Chairman and Director, Hallmark Assurance and Alpha Brokers.

Late Ezeogo Agom Eze was the pioneer Chairman of Ebonyi State Traditional Rulers Council and later emerged the Patron of the council, a position he held till his death.
