Barely 24 hours after the new local government chairmen in Rivers State were sworn in by Governor Siminalyi Fubara, arsonists have unleashed mayhem on some local government secretariats in the state.
In Eleme local government, the council chambers was set alight in in the early hours of the morning just a few hours after the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun directed the State Commissioner of Police, CP Bala Mustapha to recall all police personnel stationed in the various LGA Secretariats.
Also, pockets of violence has have been recorded in Ikwere Local Government Secretariat where hoodlums were said to have tried to set the council on fire.
In Ogu/Bolo Local Government Headquarters, some youths gathered to prevent the new local government chairman and councilors from gaining entrance to the council.
At press time the state government has not issued any statement on the events.
