The management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has allegedly sacked all its workers that joined oil and gas unions.
FACTSHEET learnt that most of the affected workers had earlier in the week registered with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).
The termination of the workers engagement was said to have been carried out through a memo signed by the Chief General Manger of Human Asset Management, Mr. Femi Oyekunle.
According to a source privy to the latest development, the refinery management in the memo dated September 5, 2025 stated that the measure was taken as a part of “total re-organisation” of the plant to forestall any sabotage to its operations.

The memo also directed the company’s finance department to immediately compute and offset all financial entitlement to the affected workers in line with their terms of employment.
Dangote Refinery has been locked in an endless battle with leadership of various unions in the oil and gas sector over unionization issues. The refinery has refused to allow its workers join the unions, while the unions have accused the management of the refinery of trying to strangulate its members by taking away their jobs.
Dangote Refinery earlier announced it has procured 4000 trucks powered by CNG that will distribute its products nationwide, a move the oil workers, especially the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).
PENGASAN, NUPENG and the management of the refinery have not issued any statement on the latest development at press time.
