Despite Sen Ishaku Aboh’s Prediction, Orji Uzor Kalu Retains Abia North Senate Seat, Floors LP,PDP in Appeal Court
The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos has affirmed the election of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu as the lawmaker representing Abia North in the Senate.
In a ruling read by the Chairman of the 3-man panel, Justice A. Abiri, the court upheld the judgement of the Abia State National and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal which earlier dismissed the petition of filed by the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Nnamdi Iro Orji, and that of his counterpart from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Mao Ohabunwa.
The judgement which was a unanimous decision held that the appeals of the LP and PDP candidates lacked merit as they could not prove their allegations.
Sen. Kalu polled 30,805 votes to defeat his closest rival and the candidate of the LP, Nnamdi Iro Orji who polled 27, 540 votes, while Mao Ohuabunwa of the PDP came 3rd with 15, 175 votes.
Senator Kalu is the current Chairman, Senate Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation.
Former Senator for Adamawa North, Senator Ishaku Aboh who was removed by the Appeal Court in Abuja had alleged that there was a plan to remove Sen Orji Uzor Kalu as a punishment for not supporting the emergence of Godswill Akpabio as the President of the Senate at the dawn of the 10th Senate.
