Court Ruling on Illegal Congresses has Put Detractors of Ebonyi State PDP to Shame- Anyi G’Emeya Movement
A significant legal victory has emerged for the people of Ebonyi State as the Abakaliki Division of the Federal High Court on November 11, 2024, delivered a historic judgment in the case of Hon. Nnenna Lynda Udeh & 12 Ors. v. PDP & Anor., nullifying the October 2024 congresses of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. The court declared these congresses void, unconstitutional, and of no effect, emphasizing the supremacy of the rule of law. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has also been restrained from recognizing any officials elected from these illegal processes.
This landmark decision has been hailed as a victory for justice and democracy in Ebonyi State, affirming that the law will not tolerate attempts to undermine the democratic process for personal or political gain. The ruling strengthens public confidence in the legal system and serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding constitutional order.
In a statement issued in Abakaliki in reaction to the ruling, the Anyi G’Emeya Movement, a citizens-led initiative committed to good governance, transparency, and accountability, expressed its hope and renewed determination to continue pushing for a better future for Ebonyi State. The movement’s spokesperson, Prince Darlington Peter Onwe, noted that the decision reflects the power of the people and the strength of their collective voice in demanding justice.
“This ruling not only serves as a victory in the courts, but it is also a reaffirmation of the values we stand for – values of governance that is accountable to the people, leadership that is transparent, and a system that is grounded in the rule of law,” Onwe said. “The Anyi G’Emeya Movement will continue to advocate for a future where governance is responsive and the law is respected.”
The ruling also represents a call to action for the people of Ebonyi State, urging them to stay engaged in the political process and remain steadfast in their commitment to justice and progress.
At the heart of the movement’s advocacy is the leadership of High Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, FHL, whose vision and unwavering dedication to the people of Ebonyi State have been a guiding force for the movement. His recent words, “We are unshaken. The love remains unconquered. Power to the People. Anyi Ga Emeya family,” continue to inspire the movement’s members and supporters.
The Anyi G’Emeya Movement has vowed to remain undeterred in its mission to ensure a democratic, peaceful, and prosperous Ebonyi State. With renewed unity and purpose, the movement is resolute in its belief that the power of the people will drive the state toward a brighter future.
