Bolaji Agbede Replaces Herbert Wigwe as Access Holdings Group CEO
Following the tragic demise of Dr. Herbert Wigwe, the founding Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of Access Holdings Plc, owners of Access Bank Nigeria PLC, the board of directors of the Group, has approved the appointment of Ms Bolaji Agbede as the Acting Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO).
The new appointment is subject to the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Late Herbert Wigwe alongside his wife, Doreen, son Chizi and Ex Chairman of the Nigeria Exchange Group, Chief Abimboloa Ogunbanjo died in a helicopter crash in California on Saturday morning (Nigerian time) while they were on their way to Las Vegas to watch the Super Bowl.
Earlier, the Access Holding Group had announced it was going to make known late Wigwe’s successor after the unfortunate accident.
Part of the statement announcing the new appointment reads:
“Further to its announcement dated February 11, 2024, the Board of Directors of Access Holdings Plc (the Company), has today announced the appointment of Ms Bolaji Agbede, as the Acting Group Chief Executive Officer of the Company, following the unfortunate demise of its former Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr Herbert Wigwe, on February 9, 2024.
“The appointment is subject to the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria”, the statement read.
The new GCEO joined Access Bank in 2003, as an Assistant General. She has over 20 years cognate experience within the financial services sector.
An alumna of the University of Lagos where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Statistics, Agbede also a Master of Business Administration, from Cranfield University UK, in 2002
