Assad Flees Damascus to Unknown Destination as Rebels Overthrows Govt

 

Syrian long time dictator, Bashar al-Assad has fled the country after rebels overrun his government in Damascus on Sunday.

Bashar al-Assad strong allay, Russia confirmed that he has “left” the country. BBC quoted the head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group saying that Assad “left Syria via Damascus international airport before the army security forces left.”

The are led by Abu Mohammed al-Jawlani, the leaders of the Hayat Tahrir al0Sham who was part of rebel groups that mounted heavy offensive on Damascus in the last one week. The capital fell early morning on Sunday and Assad and some members of his family were hurried and ferried out of the capital city

Though no specific information was given on the plane carrying the now former Syrian strong man, but there were speculations that he left in an old military plan that may not be easily tracked by radar.

His destination is not known yet, but speculations that Assad may have ended up in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is rife.

Assad ruled Syria for 24 years plus and fought to remain in power in the last 15 years, he engaged in series of conflicts that crippled the economy of the Middle East nation.

Several Western leaders have expressed happiness over the fall of Assad.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed the fall of Assad era which he described as a “barbaric regime.”

The UK PM said that, “The developments in Syria in recent hours and days are unprecedented, and we are speaking to our partners in the region and monitoring the situation closely.”

“The Syrian people have suffered under Assad’s barbaric regime for too long and we welcome his departure.”

Meanwhile Syrians in many countries including Germany, France, UK, USA, Turkey have taken to the streets with Syrians flag to celebrate the fall of Assad.
