Amidst Leaked ‘Judgement’ Edo Election Tribunal Set to Rule on PDP Petition Against Gov Okpehbolo

The Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting at the National Judicial Council (NJC), Abuja is set to give its ruling on the 2024 governorship election in the South South state.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Mr. Asue Ighodalo, had dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Monday Okpeohbolo to the tribunal challenging the declaration of the APC candidate as the winner of the keenly contested election by INEC.

Earlier in the week, a purported “judgement” of the tribunal had “leaked” indicating that there is a split judgement that favoured Governor Okpehbolo.

In the purported leaked judgement, two of the three tribunal judges ruled in favour of the APC dismissing the petition of the PDP for not being sufficient enough to cancel the election or upturn the result as declared by INEC, while a minority judgement upheld the petition of the PDP.
