Alumni Transform Auchi College with Multi-Billion Naira Upgrade, Set for April Commissioning

A major infrastructural transformation is underway at Auchi College as the Association of Great Achievers, Class of ’91, has completed over 90 percent of a multi-billion naira upgrade aimed at restoring the institution to global standards.

The initiative, spearheaded by oil and gas mogul Peter Omoh Dunia, has seen the construction, rehabilitation, and beautification of key facilities across the school, significantly improving learning conditions and staff welfare.

The extensive project includes a state-of-the-art ICT/CBT centre equipped with 320 computers, which also doubles as a digital library, alongside a fully equipped science laboratory complex for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. A modern sports complex featuring a synthetic football field has also been delivered, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to physical development.

Other completed works include new internal road networks, functional drainage systems, perimeter fencing for enhanced security, a modern gatehouse, and solar-powered infrastructure such as boreholes, CCTV surveillance systems, and street lighting. Water supply has also been improved through a solar-powered reticulation system supported by a 20KVA lithium hybrid setup.

Speaking during a tour of the facilities, the Senior School Principal, Mrs. Adam Obetaru-Jato, described the transformation as unprecedented in the history of the college. She recalled that when she assumed office in 2024, the school was in a deplorable state, with dilapidated structures and unsafe learning conditions.

“This is a marvellous development. There were no proper buildings, and during rainfall, students had nowhere to shelter. Today, the story has changed completely,” she said, expressing gratitude to the alumni for their intervention.

Project Engineer, Mr. Kenneth Asekome, also recounted the poor state of the institution during the initial inspection, noting that the alumni acted swiftly to reverse years of neglect.

According to him, the project was driven by passion and a shared commitment among members of the Class of ’91 to give back to their alma mater.

A member of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Dairo Samuel, stated that the facilities were built to meet international standards, particularly the sports complex, in recognition of Edo State’s strong sporting heritage.

Community members have equally lauded the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful. A community leader, Mrs. Grace Agatu, commended the association for addressing long-standing infrastructural challenges that had hindered effective learning.

The projects are expected to be officially commissioned by governor Monday Okpebholo on April 6, 2026. The event is anticipated to attract top government officials, industry leaders, and stakeholders from across the country.

With final touches ongoing, the transformation of Auchi College stands as a testament to the power of alumni-driven development and community partnership in revitalizing Nigeria’s educational sector.
