Former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Silas Agara, has officially resigned from his position as Director General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) to pursue his ambition of representing Nasarawa North in the Senate.
Agara made the announcement on Saturday during a well-attended ceremony marking his 54th birthday, held at his residence in Akwanga. The event, organized by the Mada Progressive Comrades Forum, drew friends, political associates, family members, and supporters who gathered to celebrate his life and contributions to the development of the state.
The atmosphere was filled with goodwill and admiration, as speakers took turns to commend Agara for his leadership qualities, integrity, and commitment to improving the lives of people. Many described him as a results-driven public servant whose impact has been felt across communities in Nasarawa State.
During the event, political undertones emerged as discussions shifted toward the forthcoming bye-election in the Nasarawa North Senatorial District, necessitated by the passing of late Senator Godiya Akwashiki.
Speaking at the occasion, Agara expressed appreciation to the organizers and attendees for honoring him, noting that the celebration symbolized more than a personal milestone.
He also acknowledged the opportunities provided under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which he said have enabled leaders like him to contribute meaningfully to national development through the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“As Nasarawa North Senatorial District prepares to fill the vacuum created by the demise of our late senator, I hereby announce my decision to resign from the NDE,” Agara declared.
He added that his decision followed extensive consultations with stakeholders and supporters across the district, expressing confidence in his readiness to contest in the upcoming bye-election.
Earlier, a leader of the forum, Comrade Ibrahim Maiyanga, highlighted what he described as political gains recorded by the Christian community under the current administration. He also reaffirmed the group’s support for President Tinubu’s potential bid for a second term.
Agara’s declaration is expected to intensify political activities in Nasarawa North as stakeholders begin aligning ahead of the bye-election, with observers predicting a keenly contested race for the senatorial seat.
