Again NUJ Clears 3-Member FCT Credentials C’ttee, Insists Election Process Must Continue

The National Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ on Friday cleared the allegations leveled against the 3 member credential Commitee for the December 2024 FCT NUJ election.

In a letter signed by the National Secretary, Achike Chude, the Secretariat identified the three member committee as the authentic credential committee members with the mandate to conduct the election.

It reads ” we have carefully gone through the petitions against Mr Henry Umoru and Sarah Odugbo with regard to their membership of the FCT Credentials Committee and noted the various allegations against them by Messrs Osaretin Osadebamwen, John Chuks Onuayim, and Victoson Agbenson. The petitions were written and delivered separately.

“A careful investigation of the complaints made against the duo did not produce any evidence to substantiate the allegations against them and the subsequent call for their disqualification from the Credentials Committee set up to supervise the FCT council election.

“The allegations against them were without merit”

“Consequently, in reiteration of our earlier directive, Mr Henry Umoru, Sarah Odugbo and Elizabeth Christopher Atteh are to resume their duties unhindered as members of the credetials committee. Kindly assist them in this process with the enabling environment to make the exercise a success.

“The Committee is to liaise with the National Secretariat going forward”.

Recall that the embattled Patrick Osaretin Osadebamwen had petitioned Mrs Sarah Odugbo stating that the chapel failed to remit their check up dues a claim which was false.

Recall that the sum of 315 thousand naira was remitted to the coffers of the Union under the leadership of Emmanuel Ogbeche

The former chairman of FCTA chapel Mr Kalu Emetu when contacted confirmed cheque was handed over not cash

The committee has been asked to liase directly the national body on matters regarding the election.
