Actor, Baba Ijesa Released from Prison After Serving Time for Sexual Assault on a Minor
Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has been released from prison after completing his 5-year jail term.
A Lagos State High Court in on July 14, 2022 convicted Omyinka on the charges of sexual assault on a 14 -year old minor and was sentenced to 16 years in prison.
He spent over three years in prison.
However, announcing his release in a social media post, his colleague and associate, actor Yomi Fabiyi, wrote, “You are now officially FREE AND OUT. Baba Ijesha is not just back but BETTER.
“I am also happy you were cleared by the APPEAL COURT of ever having sex/defile any child/minor. The 7-year-old story is a charade. We live in a terrible world, where sentiments and wickedness rise above the rule of law and truth.”
Despite the claims by Fabiyi , there is no evidence that an appelate court upturned his conviction of sexual offence involving a minor.
It will be recalled that in June 2024, Justice Ojo of the Court of Appeal, Lagos upheld the lower court’s sentencing of five years of Omiyinka for sexual assault, but acquitted him on two other related counts.
