The Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Labour Party (LP) has declared that the tenure of the Mr. Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the party has since expired June 9, 2024.

he Labour Party, LP, Caretaker Committee in Abuja has urged Julius Abure to stop parading himself as the national chairman of the party, saying his tenure expired on June 9.
At the press conference organised by the Nationa Transitional Committee of the party led by its Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, the BOT noted that Abure since he assumed office as the party chairman in 2000 following the death of the then National Chairman of the party Abdulkadir Abdulsalam has never organised any election to elect leaders for the party.
Mohammed told journalists that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had even advised Mr. Abure to vacate office as the Chairman of the LP.
He wondered why Mr. Abure was bent on destroying the party saying, “In fact, INEC, the Independent National Electoral Commission, had asked him to vacate the chair meant for the Chairman of the Labour Party.
“These interventions by the NTC have culminated in the meeting of the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the Labour Party in Umuahia.
“The National Transitional Committee, NTC facilitated by the Nigerian Labour Congress as the Trustee of the Labour Party fully accepts and commends the decision of the NEC of the Labour Party at its meeting on September 4, 2024.
“We support the 29-man Caretaker Committee to prepare and conduct democratic congresses to elected party leadership at the Ward, LGA, State and National levels.’’
The BOT Secretary reiterated the appreciation of the party to the governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti for the bold step to correct the illegalities that Abure and his cohorts were bent on perpetrating in the party.
